On September 13th, Charter and PowerOn came together to celebrate MKE LGBT Community Center in Milwaukee, WI. The day began with a check presentation of Charter’s contribution towards the MKE LGBT Community Center, which is a partner center of LGBT Tech's PowerOn program.
The centerpiece of the day was the launch of LGBT Tech’s Digital Navigator Program. This initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide by providing resources, knowledge, and guidance to empower LGBTQ+ households and communities. The inaugural in-person digital navigator training was a pivotal step in this journey, held right at the MKE LGBT Community Center.
During the training session, LGBT Tech’s Arin Rook equipped seven dedicated MKE Center staff members with the tools, strategies, and resources needed to connect LGBTQ+ households in their community to the FCC’a Affordable Connectivity Program. The FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program is a beacon of hope for marginalized communities, offering financial support to facilitate access to essential internet services. The commitment and passion displayed by the MKE Center staff members were truly inspiring. They were eager to serve their community and ensure that LGBTQ+ individuals have the same opportunities and access to information as everyone else.
This launch event was not just a one-time occurrence but a step toward a broader mission. Charter and LGBT Tech are dedicated to expanding the Digital Navigator Program and hosting more training sessions at LGBTQ+ centers across the nation in the coming months. The goal is to leave no community behind and to ensure that digital equity is a reality for all.
